What is the Hotlist MCP Connector?

The Hotlist MCP Connector lets AI assistants like Claude work with your Hotlist lists using MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard way assistants connect to other apps. Ask in plain language, like "make a shopping list for these three recipes", and the list shows up in your account. You sign in with Hotlist and approve access, so the assistant only works with your lists, as you.

Connect the MCP

The connector works in Claude. Once it's connected on the web or desktop, it works in the Claude phone app too.

  1. In Claude, open Customize in the sidebar, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Hotlist and paste this as the URL:
    https://www.hotlist.world/mcp
  4. Choose Add, then Connect.
  5. Sign in to Hotlist if asked, then choose Allow.

Open Customize in the sidebar, then Connectors. Choose Hotlist, then Disconnect or remove it.

Lists Claude already made stay in your Hotlist account. Delete them in Hotlist if you don't want them.

FAQs

What kinds of things can I ask?

Anything about making or adding to your lists. For example:

  • "Make a shopping list for spaghetti carbonara for four."
  • "Add milk, eggs and coffee to my groceries list in Hotlist."
  • "What's still unchecked on my weekend list?"

Claude gives you a link to the list when it's done.

Why don't I see Hotlist in Claude's list of connectors?

Hotlist isn't in Claude's directory yet, so you add it yourself as a custom connector. Follow the steps above.

Will this work with other AI apps?

Right now it only connects to Claude. Hotlist turns away any other app that asks, to keep your lists safe from lookalikes. We plan to support more AI apps later.

Can the MCP delete or change my lists?

No. It can read your lists, make new ones, and add items. It can't delete, rename, share or publish anything. Those stay in Hotlist.

Are the MCP and my data secure?

Yes. You sign in with your own Hotlist account and approve access yourself. Hotlist only lets you approve Claude, and the approval screen shows where you'll be sent back to. The assistant only sees the lists you can see and can't do anything you couldn't do yourself. Lists it makes are private. You can disconnect at any time. See our Privacy Policy for more.

How is this different from copying and pasting a list?

The connector works with your live lists. Claude always sees what's on them now, including what you've checked off, and changes land straight in your account. No copying back and forth.

Why did Claude do something different from what I asked?

AI assistants can misread a request. Be specific, and say "in Hotlist" and the list's name. If an item lands wrong, fix it in Hotlist.

It won't connect. What should I check?

Make sure the URL starts with https://www. and has no spaces. Then remove the connector and add it again. If Hotlist says the app isn't supported, you started from somewhere other than Claude.

Are there any limitations?

The connector can do four things:

  • See your lists, plus shared lists you can edit.
  • Read a list, including what's checked off.
  • Make a new list. It's private, and a shopping list with checkboxes unless you ask for something else.
  • Add to a list. It skips anything already on it.
